Identification Requirements and Traveler Programs

When traveling domestically or internationally, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) advise that everyone (18+ on domestic flights, all ages on international flights) carry forms of acceptable identification in order to board a flight. 

Clients traveling internationally must have a valid passport that has an expiration date which is at least 6 months after the expected date of my travel and has at least 2 or more blank pages.

Global Entry

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Global entry costs $100 per person to apply and is valid for 5 years. Children must apply and have their own account, regardless of age. 

Travelers must be pre-approved for the Global Entry program. All applicants undergo a rigorous background check and in-person interview before enrollment. Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck.

TSA PreCheck

TSA PreCheck™ is an expedited screening that allows eligible travelers to keep on their shoes, light outerwear, belts and more. It costs $85 to apply and is valid for 5 years. Children under age 12 can accompany their parents through TSA PreCheck lines for free.  

Travelers must be pre-approved for the TSA PreCheck program. Applicants can submit an online application and schedule an appointment at one of the nationwide enrollment centers (many located NOT in airports) for a 10-minute interview.

Real ID

After 10/1/21, anyone seeking to fly domestically within the United States will be required to have a Real ID. 

STEP

The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Sign up to receive important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country and help the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency.

International Travel

For travel to international destinations, we advise that you familiarize yourself with the  travel advisories, alerts, and other important details specific to that country that may affect you. Visit www.travel.state.gov for passport information and each country’s requirement of passports and visas. 

Clients must be aware that each foreign country holds different views of past criminal offenses, whether within or outside of their borders.  Each country can and does set its own rules for what type of criminal record disqualifies a person from entry. For example, if traveling to or through Canada, Americans with a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) record should always check the current rules which can deny entry into Canada.  (Details can be found at: Entering Canada)

Insurance

ET Family Travel strongly encourages and offers access to Travel Insurance, to protect our clients and their travel investment. Unless specifically noted, Travel Insurance is not included in the cost of a travel itinerary, and there is an additional cost when travel insurance is selected. Without appropriate travel insurance, if a client chooses to cancel or interrupt their travel for any reason, all or portions of the trip may not be refunded by ET Family Travel’s travel suppliers. In such a case the travel supplier’s cancellation policies, including forfeitures and penalties will apply, potentially resulting in the loss of monies up to the full cost of a travel booking and any related costs.

Cruises

ET Family Travel strongly advises that all clients and members of their party traveling on cruise ships have a valid passport (see above). Clients are strongly advised to arrive at their departure point the night before cruise departure.

Jamaica Online Immigration Form
C-5 entry form for Immigration. Fill out the online form up to 6 months before travel. Head onto the designated immigration line and let the officer know you have filled out the C-5 form and your information will appear on-screen when your passport is swiped.
